teaching philosophy

I love to teach and to see my students succeed. To insure their success I bring respect, enthusiasm, relevance, organization, and mutually active involvement to my classroom. My students and I enjoy a mentor relationship based on mutual respect. I treat students like professionals and my expectations are thus commensurate. I have found that my own enthusiasm for the subjects I teach inspires my students who, in turn, re-inspire me. Students are always aware of how each lesson will support their ultimate goal of becoming graphic designers. This information is noted on my syllabi and is reinforced at the start of each class. My syllabi are clearly organized with classes closely following their outline. Students build upon skill sets ultimately applying a semester’s worth of work to a final project. I am conscious of my students' varied learning styles and address these modalities through class activities. I am flexible. Students’ needs and suggestions are always considered. Occasionally, this means a class will deviate from my plan, however, I have gotten most of my best teaching ideas directly from my students. I have been successful as a teacher because I respect my pupils. I love teaching and I love my students. I look forward to sharing my knowledge with them in the hope that it will help them to become better graphic designers.
